| To do it yourself or to take it to a shop, that is the question. Well, since you're here on our site, we figure your intent on doing boat motor repairs yourself. While an outboard boat motor can seem rather intimidating at first glance, they are actually very simple in design consisting of less parts than the motor in your car. It still operates the same way, that is, fuel, ignition, compression, etc. How do you know what motor part is causing the problem? This is ultimately the important part of DIY. You must be able to diagnose problems as well as replace parts. Since the average Joe doesn't have the experience to diagnose effectively, thats where we are here to help. We always suggest you have a boat motor repair manual in hand (which we offer in the store), so you will have an idea of what you are getting involved with and what motor part you may need for your repairs. Be kind to yourself and your boat motor. Manuals are a "must" asset and can save you a lot of time over being so frustrated you just want to give up, not to mention causing additional damage by incorrectly installing your new boat parts.
